Homenajes (tributes)
Mixed media, (Beaded necklaces and bracelets, leather straps, Wooden stands, frames and mannequins)
variable sizes. 2023
The project represents a multidisciplinary intersection that materializes in a series of collaborative works, integrating design, sculpture and fashion. These works stand out for their innovative use of traditional materials and techniques of the Wixárica culture, which is manifested in dresses made from artisanal practices. These dresses include elements such as necklaces and bracelets made of chaquira, as well as huaraches made of leather straps, all of them products of an experimental process that seeks to reinterpret cultural meanings within the artistic field.
The initiative is the result of an extended collaboration with Wixárica artists Josefina Venegas and Ramón Carrillo. The main objective of this collaborative work is to explore and exhibit the complex dynamics of the transmission of indigenous knowledge, placing special emphasis on the tension between artistic production and its commercialization. In this way, “Homenajes” incites a critical reflection on concepts such as authenticity, appropriation and cultural representation in the contemporary context.
The project acts as a tribute to the creative richness inherent in artisanal products, highlighting how these can be not only expanded and transformed, but also vulnerable to corruption within the structures of the contemporary art market. This critical approach highlights the ongoing dialogue between traditional culture and modern economic and artistic systems, inviting a reconsideration of the values that underpin the production and appreciation of art.
